Replacing a laptop screen is one of the repairs we perform most often at our laptop repair service in Madrid.

Most issues that appear when an LCD screen is broken or damaged are solved by replacing the LCD.

How can I tell my laptop screen is broken?

Each laptop can be affected by a different fault; the most common are:

• Cracked or physically broken screen
• LCD liquid leakage
• Black spots or lines on the screen (red, blue, etc.)
• Dim screen / lack of brightness
• Backlight issue (screens completely dark)
• Lines on the screen, vertical stripes
• Completely black screen

If you can’t see anything on the screen, it doesn’t turn on, it has vertical stripes (red, green or blue), it’s cracked, liquid has leaked, it has stains, or even some pixels fail, the issue is solved by replacing the LCD completely. To check that the fault is only related to the broken display, you can connect the laptop to an external monitor with a cable, verify that the image looks fine, and confirm that the graphics card is working correctly. If, even with an external monitor, the image does not appear, the problem may be due to a malfunctioning graphics card.

There are laptops with screens of different sizes and resolutions. We have screens available for any laptop model. To check parts availability, we always need to know the correct code of the original screen, and that’s why, for laptops with non-standard screen sizes, we always disassemble the laptop before providing a quote. The first step, therefore, is always to find the correct LCD code to replace it with an identical one.

You won’t need to make a data backup because a broken laptop display does not affect the data stored on the drive.

Most laptops use LCD or IPS screens, which offer a good balance between brightness, color, and power consumption.
At Computer Chamberí, we replace 11.6”, 13.3”, 14”, and 15.6” screens with HD, Full HD, and 4K resolutions, depending on the model and compatibility.
We always use original panels or high-quality equivalents, ensuring the same level of brightness and contrast as the factory screen.

OLED screens in modern laptops

OLED screens offer superior image quality thanks to their ability to produce true blacks, high contrast, and a wider color gamut.
Many current laptops, such as the Dell XPS, ASUS ZenBook, Lenovo Yoga, or HP Spectre, use this technology.
At Computer Chamberí, we replace damaged OLED screens using original parts or premium-quality equivalents, ensuring precise installation and a 6-month warranty.
These screens are thinner and more delicate than conventional LCDs, so installation requires specialized thermal and mechanical handling, which we carry out in our workshop in Madrid.

High-performance screens for gaming laptops

Gaming devices increasingly feature 120 Hz, 144 Hz, or even 240 Hz screens, allowing you to enjoy games with great smoothness and without blur.
At our repair service, we perform screen replacement on gaming laptops from brands such as MSI, ASUS ROG, Acer Predator, or Alienware, respecting the refresh rate, resolution, and GPU compatibility of the device.
We also verify proper synchronization between the panel and GPU to prevent ghosting or tearing.

The latest gaming laptop models use screens with refresh rates up to 240 Hz with IPS technology, very similar to a phone display. This type of panel is usually more expensive and harder to find quickly.

It’s very important when replacing the screen to know the resolution of the original screen: HD, Full HD, 2K, 4K.

Slim or standard laptop screen?

When we disassemble the original screen, we also need to determine whether it is a slim or standard panel, which can differ in thickness and in the position of the mounting points on the back cover.

Latest-generation laptops are starting to use screens with a different size, 350 mm wide and without mounting brackets to attach the screen to the back cover. Adhesive tape is used to secure the 35 cm screen to the laptop’s rear cover.

30-pin or 40-pin connector?

Another key difference when replacing your broken laptop screen is knowing what type of connector the current screen uses. Most latest-generation laptops use a 30-pin connector.

However, there are several devices that still use the 40-pin connector.

Once we’ve identified the connector type, it’s also important to see where the screen connector is located—on the right side or the left side.

In the case of OLED screens and high-refresh-rate panels, connectors are usually thinner and more delicate, and it’s important to use the exact model to avoid damage to the motherboard or video controller.
For this reason, we always identify the exact screen reference before ordering the part, ensuring full compatibility with the customer’s laptop.
