Laptops from the previous generation used to come with a keyboard module mounted on top of the upper case, which in most cases is removed by taking out two or three screws from the bottom of the laptop and prying up the upper plastic clips.

For example, replacing the keyboard on a Lenovo G50-70 is a fairly simple operation and is done simply by removing three screws from the bottom case.

That means a faster and easier repair when it comes to replacing the keyboard.

Average repair price almost always depends on the keyboard model. It tends to be a bit higher in the case of backlit keyboards, such as for Lenovo ThinkPad or HP ProBook.

Keyboard replacement with full disassembly

On more modern laptops, to replace the keyboard you have to disassemble practically the entire laptop.

In several cases, the manufacturer only supplies the keyboard together with the upper case of the laptop, increasing repair costs.

In our service center, however, in many of these cases we can manage to replace only the keyboard, without changing the entire upper case. These are models from Asus, Acer, HP and Toshiba, which in most cases use plastic clips to hold the keyboard on the underside. Our technicians can replace these clips and reinstall the keyboard as before without having to change the entire part. This means significant savings for the end customer.

One important thing to keep in mind when carrying out this type of repair is that if the laptop comes with a keyboard in English, French, Italian, German, or another language, it will be necessary to replace the keyboard with the same original language. Otherwise, the keys may not fit the upper frame.

Outside of the cases discussed above, there are laptops that tend to be high-end with backlit keys, whose manufacturer recommends replacing the entire component.

To repair the keyboard, it will be necessary to replace the upper part of the laptop with the palm rest and the trackpad.
